In this post I will be looking at the difference between the Leapster and the LeapPad, to give you a better idea of just how good the LeapPad Explorer is by comparing it to its predecessor.
The LeapFrog Leapster was released in 2003 and was a handheld console, similar to the Nintendo DS that was released around the same time. In 2008 LeapFrog released the Leapster 2, but around this time Apple had a new gadget of their own – the iPad.
The iPad was targeted more at adults than the Nintendo DS was, but children really caught onto it, and LeapFrog were one of the companies that took to this the most. This year they have released the LeapPad Explorer, and one of it’s key differences to the Leapster is that it is instead an electronic tablet similar to the iPad.
Both devices work with Leapster games and apps, but only the LeapPad Explorer can work with LeapPad games and apps. A cool add-on is that the LeapPad Explorer has its own built-in camera and video recorder, where as the Leapster had them as addons.
The screen is roughly 50% bigger and the memory is a wopping 400% bigger, meaning that the LeapPad is meaner machine than the Leapster. Because of this, the LeapPad Explorer offers a better experience, as well as better graphics thanks to its higher screen resolution.
Both the Leapster and the LeapPad Explorer contain an e-reader, but the LeapPad Explorer takes reading to a new level, with animated pages that bring the stories to life. Your child can also personalise their home page with a picture of them self, create their own virtual pet and have fun with the animation studio that it contains.
So then, the lowdown for this post:
- LeapPad Explorer has bigger screen and increased memory.
- LeapPad Explorer has its own built-in camera and voice recorder.
- Both offer e-reader capabilities, but the LeapPad offers animation.
- LeapPad Explorer offers a whole host of other fantastic features, such as its animation studio.
